Chris Evans Is Scrawny and Nazis Are Bad in 'Captain America' Trailer
There was a 30-second Captain America spot during the Superbowl last month, but that wasn’t much to go on besides a snippet of Stanley Tucci’s funny accent and a legitimately badass glimpse of the Red Skull. Now we’ve got a full, two-and-a-half-minute theatrical trailer on our hands, and it’s much juicier. Here, take a look:
Hit the jump for my thoughts.
The first thing that catches my eye is the Benjamin Button-ish CGI which turns Chris Evans from a beefy hunk of muscle to scrawny lil’ Steve Rogers before the super serum turns him back into a beefy hunk of muscle. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m so used to Evan’s normal, ripped physique or because the CGI’s just not that great, but I found it very distracting. Time will tell, I suppose. But once he turns into Captain America, things get better; there’s Nazis, there’s explosions, there’s a spunky Hayley Atwell, and yeah, Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull is still badass. Plus we get Tommy Lee Jones barking out orders!
I wouldn’t say I’m totally sold on this thing yet, even if Joss Whedon did doctor up the script before taking on The Avengers, but right now I’d say I’m more positive about this than I am Thor.
Captain America: The First Avenger hits red, white, and blue theaters everywhere July 22.
